The Graphic Design Portfolio of Amy Gunkler

Welcome to my corner of the web! While I am shifting my career focus away from graphic design, it is still a significant part of my work experience, and so this portfolio exists to show a few examples of what I have done so far. My favorite aspect of graphic design is how it uses the organization of visual elements to effectively communicate a message. I will apply the organization and communication skills that I learned from working as a designer to upcoming stages in my career.

Web Design

Hammerstrike Firearms is an online firearms retailer. I designed this e-commerce website around Outdoor Business Network's CloudCommerce software. The site is responsive, to display well on desktop computers, laptops, tablets and phones. The client requested a clean, grid-based design for easy navigation. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images, content and software. Click here to visit the live website.

Brader Arms Corp. is an online retailer of tactical weapons and gear. I designed this e-commerce website around Outdoor Business Network's CloudCommerce software. Contrary to current e-commerce best practices, this retailer requested a dark website. I used high contrast clear graphics to ensure ease of use despite the unusual color scheme. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images, content and software. Click here to visit the live website.

Austin's Trail is an online outdoors sporting goods retailer. I re-designed their website around Outdoor Business Network's CloudCommerce software. The site is responsive, to display well on desktop computers, laptops, tablets and phones. Austin's Trail brand identity is casual and whimsical, so I carried this over to their new site. While I used plenty of bold graphics, I ensured that the looks would not inhibit the usability of the site. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images, content and software. Click here to visit the live website.

Dark Systems LLC. is a firearms manufacturer and retailer. I designed this e-commerce website around Outdoor Business Network's CloudCommerce software. The site is responsive, to display well on desktop computers, laptops, tablets and phones. To set it apart from other CloudCommerce sites, I elaborated upon Dark Systems' existing logo and brand look. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images, content and software. Click here to visit the live website.

Brand Identity and Logo Design

Outdoor Business Network, an e-commerce software company, is re-branding themselves as XLEcommerce to appeal to a wider range of customers. I developed this logo, and helped determine brand identity guidelines. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images. PTG Gunsmithing Branding

PTG Gunsmithing is a small gunsmithing business that focuses on vintage and collector items. I designed a logo that suggests an "old western" feel, but that is also simple and modern enough for a variety of uses. Once the logo was designed, a brand look was developed around it. I used this logo and branding to design business cards and a website. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images.

To illustrate the nature of Defense Direct's business, I devised a logo with a trigger inside the letter "D". The colors and typeface are simple and modern, to convey a straightforward, reliable business identity. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images.

Print Design

Two very different artists collaborated for a show. Their existing promotional materials were limited, but I was able to unite them by selectively using images that shared muted pastel color schemes, and keeping the rest of the layout simple and neutral. Click here to view larger image.

Talon Holsters Tradeshow Banner

Filling a large banner is a challenge when representing a small company that has mediocre product images. I emphasized their logo, then filled the space with some of the best images that they were able to provide. To highlight the fact that their holsters were available on their new website, and to fill out the remaining space on the banner, I included a screenshot of their new website. This project was done for Outdoor Business Network, and OBN holds the rights for all images.

Downtown Perrysburg Inc. is an organization of businesses in historic downtown Perrysburg Ohio. This calendar was posted around the community to promote their events, and the local businesses that sponsor them. To relate to the historic location, and to evoke the feeling of classic family-friendly fun, I gave it a "retro" look. The typographic style of the headline is borrowed from old postcards, which often featured images of a location within the name of that location. Click here to view larger image.
